Arnaud and Bouteille keep New Caledonia titles on home soil

New Caledonia’s Gilles Arnaud and Ornella Bouteille have won the Men’s and Women’s Singles titles respectively at the 2017 New Caledonia Open, both defeating rising junior stars in the final.

In the Women’s Singles, Bouteille saw off up and coming Lorie La in a marathon seven game encounter, coming from 0-2 down to take the match 4-3. En route to the final Bouteille defeated the No.1 seed, Vanuatu’s Anolyn Lulu.

In the Men’s Singles Arnaud defeated Arthur Mas. But the junior can hold his head high. He made a remarkable comeback to defeat Nolan Charles in the semi-final. Mas came from 0-3 down, sneaking over the line in the seventh game, winning the decider 12-10.

Meanwhile in the Para events New Caledonia couldn’t keep hold of all the titles. Vanuatu showed their dominance in the Men’s Para Singles as Rodney Ben took top place on the podium. While in the women’s draw, Veronique Lussiez won in an all New Caledonian final.
