Australia’s Rohan Dhooria and Parleen Kaur have both wrapped up their campaign at the ITTF Hang Seng Hong Kong Junior & Cadet Open.
In the Cadet Girls’ Singles, Kaur booked a place in the main draw with a nail biting five game win over Rumiya Lutfullina (UZB). The Aussie won the final game 11-9, securing a place in the Last 32.
While Kaur went down in straight games against Lee Chung Yan (HKG), the scoreline suggests the match could have gone either way, with the Aussie cadet being defeated 9-11, 7-11, 10-12.
Meanwhile, it was a career best performance for Dhooria, who fought his way to a place in the quarterfinal of the Junior Boys’ Singles.
His quarterfinal opponent was No.2 seed Lin Yun-Ju (TPE). Despite Dhooria’s best efforts, his opponent was always a step ahead and the Aussie went down in straight games.
Dhooria has been Oceania’s most active athlete on the international stage this year, and the experience looks like it is beginning to pay dividends. After the event, he was full of praise for the support he has received leading up to this career best performance.
“I am very happy of my results for the Hong Kong junior open. I am great full for nam and Bruno for coaching me and my mum and dad for mentoring me and I hope to achieve greater results in future.” Rohan Dhooria
