Australia’s Benjamin Gould is giving back to the Oceania region. On his recent trip to Fiji for the ITTF-Oceania Junior Championships, the Aussie made sure to reserve some space in his luggage to carry over an important parcel.
The package? A bag full of his old table tennis rubbers. Gould donated the package to share between some of the developing nations in the Oceania region, whose limited resources mean they are often playing with sheets of rubber well past their used by date.
Top juniors like Gould will change their sheets more often than your average player, so each rubber still has a lot of life in it. Athletes from Tonga, Papua New Guinea and Tuvalu will all benefit from the donation and give the rubbers a second lease of life.
Keeping with the Oceania spirit of development, Benjamin Gould is setting a fine example.
