Guam 2012 World Cadet Challenge – Boys Individual Events

Dominic Huang – Boys Singles 19th

Following on from strong results in the teams event, Dominic continued to perform well throughout the Singles Event. Finishing third in his initial group placed him in the 17-32 classification in which he had a number of wins to claim 19th position. Following strong wins over players from North America and Africa, Dominic gained a great result, and with a further year as a Cadet, Dominic will be looking to improve this result next year.

Roger Wang – Boys Singles 25th

Roger found himself in a tough group, but performed strongly against both Kunal Chodri, and Kanate Ali but was unable to gain a win in his group. Finishing fourth in his initial group placed him in the 17-32 classification. Following an initial loss, Roger was able to finish with three straight wins to claim 25th position. Roger still has a further two years as a Cadet and will be looking at improving on these results in future years.

Charles Ortis – Boys Singles 27th

Charles made his debut at international level at the Guam 2012 World Cadet Challenge, and the experience throughout the event allowed him to finish the event with some wins. Charles was drawn into Group 2, which included the eventual winner Song Xu of China, as well as the number 1 African player. Finishing fourth in his group place Charles in the 17-32 Classification. Following an initial loss, Charles was able to claim 27th place in the Boys Singles event.

Erwin Shan – Boys Singles 29th

Erwin lined up for his second World Cadet Challenge, and the experience gained through competing at the 2011 World Cadet Challenge in Puerto Rico was invaluable to the team, and allowed Erwin to show good leadership throughout the event. Erwin was drawn into Group 1, which included the number 1 seed, Kohei Sambe of Japan. Although Erwin was unable to trouble the scoreboard in the group, he progressed to the 17-32 Classification and following two initial losses was able to finish his tournament with two wins.
