Oceania’s two remaining athletes have bowed out of the singles events at the Seamaster 2017 Australian Open.

David Powell went down in straight games to the extremely experienced Gao Ning (SGP) while Jiang Fang Lay was defeated 4-1 in her match against Lee Eunhye (KOR).

Oceania’s hopes now rest on the doubles, with an Australian pair remaining in both the men’s and women’s events.

The Aussie pairing of Xin Yan and Heming Hu will face number one seeds Jang Woojin and Park Ganghyeon (KOR). They will be looking to a strong showing from the home crowd to give them some sort of edge in what will certainly be a difficult match.

Meanwhile Jian Fang Lay and Miao Miao will face India’s Sutirtha Mukherjee and Pooja Sahasrabudhe. The Australians will be favourites and could be well on course for a semi-final appearance on home soil.

The Women’s Doubles quarterfinals kick off at 13:00 local time, followed by the Men’s Doubles at 13:45. Tune in to tv.ittf.com for live coverage of the matches.
