Three hopeful Team Fiji members are heading to Japan as part of their preparation for the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. Vicky Wu, Sally Yee, and Grace Yee will be on their way to the table tennis superpower at the end  of the month.

“This will be a huge boost for our preparation for the Commonwealth Games and yes we will take every opportunity as it comes,” said Anthony Ho, Fiji Table Tennis Association advisor.

“To be given opportunity to train with one of the top table tennis playing countries in the world is a very good opportunity for us to learn and work on areas we are lacking in.”

The three athletes will head to the ITTF-Oceania Championships after their Japanese training stint, which are being staged on the Gold Coast from the 15th-19th of March. The event will see part of the competition take place in the Commonwealth Games venue, giving Oceania athletes the first chance to try out the facilities.

The Fijian athletes are no stranger to training in Japan, with the trio having already trained at the Ajinomoto National Training Center in 2017. During that time they even had the opportunity to train side by side with Olympic medallist Jun Mizutani.
