Oceania was well represented on the final day of action at the 2018 ITTF Junior Circuit Cook Islands Junior & Cadet Open, taking home three gold medals.

The most remarkable gold medal was won by the hands of New Zealand’s Nathan Xu and Sang-Yong Park in the Cadet Boys’ Doubles. The duo in black cam in as underdogs against China’s ¬†Sun Haoran and Wang Hongxiang. Despite the seemingly impossible odds, the Kiwis came through in a thrilling five game match, winning¬†3-2 (-8,9,12,-3,9) to take gold.

Meanwhile, the Cadet Girls’ Singles was an all Oceania affair, with the old Australia vs. New Zealand rivalry taking the court. This time it was that Green and Gold that out shone the All Blacks, as Parleen Kaur made a dominant display, breaking down the defences of Jiayi Zhou to win in straight games.

The third gold was won by the Fijian sister act of Loata and Filomena Duncan. The pair who went undefeated in the Cadet Girls’ Doubles round robin event and were all smiles when they won their seashell trophies.
