Nuku’alofa, Tonga is set to host the maiden ITTF-Oceania Tour event as the 2018 ITTF-Oceania Tour | Tonga gets underway this week in Atele Stadium from the 29th-30th of June.

More than thirty athletes from five countries within Oceania are ready to compete for $3,000AUD prize money as well as points to qualify for 2019 ITTF-Oceania Cup.

There is a stellar field entered, with two 2016 Olympians, Australia’s Heming Hu and Fiji’s Sally Yee, taking the court in the event. The host nation will also be well represented, with local hopes resting on Jade Palavi’s shoulders. Palavi is the reigning Tongan Men’s Singles Champion and will be looking to take on the visitors.

Entry for spectators to the event is free and the local crowd is encouraged to come down to Atele Stadium to cheer on the athletes.

With six stops across the continent and over AU$18,000 in prize money, the ITTF-Oceania Tour is a major leap forward for table tennis in the region. The tour is the pathway for Oceania athletes to the ITTF World Cup. Points won at events will directly affect the renewed ITTF-Oceania Cup Points List, with the top eight athletes earning the right to compete at the 2019 ITTF-Oceania Cup.
