Kope Taubakoa is looking to share his knowledge at the 2019 ITTF-Oceania Para Championships.

Kope picked up a silver medal in the singles event and is now joining forces with New Zealand’s Patrick Todman for the Class 2-5 Team Event. The competition is one that the Fijian is looking forward to for the special opportunity it brings.

“The team event for me is like a friendship match. It’s very special to me. Sometimes there is a lot of pressure in the game. But in the team event you’re there to comfort and cheer for your partner. When you play as a team you’re one.” Kope Taubakoa

Kope believes in taking home more than just medals. The tournament provides a rare opportunity for an exchange of ideas for players usually separated by miles of ocean. As one of the continent’s leading athletes, the Fiji representative is hoping to share his knowledge with his Oceania compatriot.

“Sharing knowledge to me is teamwork. We work as a team and play as a team. I can share knowledge about my partner’s weakness, so he can improve. You can get some strength from your partner.” Kope Taubakoa

With athletes like Kope smashing down borders, Oceania can expect to climb higher and higher on the world stage.
