August 17, 2020
ITTF-Oceania and Fiji Table Tennis Association (FTTA) are pleased to announce that Akanisi Lupe Drasuna-Cakau has been appointed Operations Manager for FTTA. Akanisi will be responsible for implementing FTTA’s strategic plan, managing the day to day operations, help expand the capacity of FTTA and enhance table tennis in Fiji.
“I am humbled to have been appointed and I thank FTTA for having faith in me. We will go to the drawing board and find ways to move forward. I hope to assist in all areas from players to technical officials. We will also look at working towards raising the standard of the game and how that can be done as well as improving mass participation.”
The appointment of an Operations Manager in Fiji is part of the DNA Program (Developing National Associations Program) which aims to assist in creating self-sustaining National Associations throughout the continent. As part of this program, ITTF-Oceania partners with National Associations to invest in their capacity and enhance their governance in order to facilitate their strategic objectives. The long-term objective is to have sophisticated National Associations with strong governance, financial sustainability and leadership, professional staff, and ongoing programs. The initiative is jointly supported by the Australian Government via the Smash Down Barriers program.
“The DNA Program has the potential to create the biggest leap forward in the development of National Associations. Traditionally, ITTF-Oceania has been able to support the development of the sport in Pacific Island countries by providing table tennis expertise such as coaching courses, training camps and participation programs. The DNA program now enables ITTF-Oceania to partner with National Associations and enhance their capacity to achieve their strategic objectives with sustainable outcomes.” Anthony Ho, ITTF-Oceania President
FTTA President, Naren Lal is excited to have Akanisi on board as FTTA looks to further implement their strategic plan and expand table tennis in Fiji.
“We are thrilled to secure Akanisi’s services and are excited to start working together to establish a better and more efficient association that will make work easier for all. We hope that we can improve the reach of table tennis to more communities in Fiji and increase our organisational performance with the support of Akanisi.”
Congratulations Akanisi and welcome to the ITTF-Oceania and FTTA family!
